Storytime! Growing up, design was my favorite form of play - My favorite toy was empty pieces of paper because they can turn into anything! At age 12, my grandma needed help with her daily injections and I learned the value of helping others. I was inspired to become a nurse to help people.
9 years later, I never regretted a day of nursing but I still longed to be in a creative space. I went searching and discovered a design practice that’s data-driven, compassion-focused, and offers a spectrum of opportunities to be creative. I enrolled in Designlab as a UX designer, loved every single bit of it, and transitioned happily ever after.
Believe it or not, nursing and UX are parallel worlds. My patients were users. We used research, empathy, problem solving, and deep collaboration to create holistic, human-centric solutions that help patients reach their goals. And in both worlds, things never go as planned! I learned to pivot, adapt as needed, and over communicate.
Working with quadraplegic patients using their chins to navigate apps, I realized how seemingly small design choices can impact quality of life. My goal is to create empowering solutions that ensure compassion and humanity in the digital space.
